all buttons regardless as to what they are attached to or  otherwise used for: shoes; gloves; a
Manadarins’ hat; talisman or badge, it’s all the same to me.

Moreland          1977    V perforated buttons were, it is currently thought, talismanic in nature;
they are usually associated with female burials in Ireland Scotland and northern England.
Recently in Fife a set of six (jet & 1stone possibly glazed) were found thought to be attached
to a mans jacket (chest & pelvic area). Although they are called buttons they were probably
not used as clothing fasteners.

Comments: Uniform. Illustrated (line art). Some of the references to early buttons  are
questioned by collectors  ie. Did they exist at all?  Mainly because of the validity of one of his
