There is a brief about me introduction to how the notes on series came about click the link above. I would be happy to collaborate with anyone currently researching any of the subjects being covered here or assist those of you researching other areas wherever I am able. To order any of the booklets below, you can write to me by either snail mail or e-mail via the Contact me page. For examples of what you can expect to find in the booklets follow the links below: ( I will show actual samples as soon as they are ready) (Proposed) publication deadlines for 2007: B1; B2 ; B3; B4 end of May (beginning of June for London I had a cold) - B5 end of August 1. A Button Collectors Notes on: Sheffield button manufacturers. page booklet giving City Directory entries under Button Manufacturers, notes from the alphabetical series of the earlier directories & some archive references. Available on this site Sheffield estimated cost enquire 4. A Button Collectors Notes on: London button manufacturers &c.1763-1907,. These notes were created from nearly 5000 entries, (herein abridged), using photocopies of the: Button manufacturers; Button Trimming Sellers; Button Importers & Agents sections of the Trades Classifications of the London Directories (with many gaps). My records go on from there to the 1970's, but due to the fact that I am unsure of the legality of publishing anything less than a hundred years old, I have only published to 1907 ( Kelly's are still with us and haven't answered my request for permission to print the more up to date entries). For the benefit of those purchasing the booklet I will be happy to answer queries about companies after 1907 but I will no longer be providing information from the directories before that date, ( except for those companies advertising in other sections. I have been using these entries for many many years and found them useful for dating literally hundreds of buttons. Ok I've just discovered Typographical publications only have 25 years protection so I have changed the dates to 1763-1977 where my copies cease. In all honesty I'm not sure if I'm pleased or dismayed you wouldn't believe how boring it is taking out all those square boxes by hand and the cut 'n' paste isn't exactly a barrel of laughs; ughhh! estimated cost enquire 5. A Button Collectors Notes on: Birmingham button manufacturers. 1767-1977. Contents as for London above except: a) Button manufacturers entries only. b) Pearl button manufacturers, (hundreds of entries under a different heading), were only of passing interest to me when copying at Birmingham Library, the copier a long way away 3 and money not endless. c) there are hundreds more entries in the Birmingham Directories than those of London mainly because there is a better run of directories. Also planned for early 2008 are: A Button Collectors Notes on: Edinburgh & Glasgow button manufacturers & tailors A Button Collectors Notes on: backmarks. coming soon ( yes I know I've been promising this one for many years now but it really is very nearly publishable) currently about 500 pages of A4 illustrating 2000 ish backmarks and about 4000 or so obverse designs- duplication of an obverse is very common with a different reverse. This booklet is still very heavily biased in favour of metal uniform buttons anyone with marked costume buttons please send photos' of them or see my swaps page. I'm working on people being able to post images directly to this site but my host doesn't seem to support many/any of the microsoft frontpage extensions. Ideas web wizards? Alternatively because of the size of these notes I may have to do an computer based publication. A Button Collectors Notes on: patents (& registered designs). I have, made extensive notes from the abridgements, a list of French patents, (numbers & names); I am currently working on the US. patents from their internet site-which is brilliant. I am patiently -tee hee- awaiting developments on the Australian and Canadian Patent sites which are showing signs of becoming useful as they promise to upload historic patents `soon'. I am still waiting for a response from our Patent Office as to if I can publish the illustrations from the abridgements or not- (originally the small number of extracts needed for the backmark catalogue didn't require special permission). The registered designs pattern books are a real pain to use but if I ever summon the patience and time to sift them I shall- hence the brackets. no dates set for those below yet as I still have lots of work to do on them and I am in need of assistance with photo's etc.. A Button Collectors Notes on: Civic & Civil buttons of the UK currently seeking contributors for this project, Police & Railway buttons have not been included as Howard Ripley and David Froggatt have more than adequately covered these subjects. Booklets are available postage & packing depends on destination. I am happy to combine shipping for multiple orders. I will accept: Pounds sterling; US Dollars; euros. I will take: cash; personal cheques, (drawn on UK banks only); UK Postal orders; international money orders and of course buttons... Additional sales: Scans available by request. Buttons , A Guide For Collectors. Gwen Squire. Frederick Muller Ltd. ISBN 0584:100353 1972 Comments: Uniform, multi-national, well illustrated, informative. I think this one comes in for some unfair criticism ok there are one or two ( OK so maybe 20+ depending on how accurate you want me to be ), misidentified but, what about the hundreds that are correct? To my knowledge It correctly identifies many buttons not illustrated elsewhere to this day. Quantity for sale 1

(2) The Iron Age Directory: A Classified Index of Goods Manufactured by Advertisers in The Iron Age, ( described as a trade journal for the Hardware, Iron, Machinery & Metal ). David Williams Company New York 1902 The overall condition is a little better than the following makes it sound: it is coming unglued at the spine 2 pages of 259 are separated from the others but all are still attached to each other via the loosened spine, the soft cloth cover is stained and has curling edges, the page edges are brown otherwise it is in remarkably good condition for being 105 years old. Quantity for sale 1. £30. I did see one on sale last year dated 1905 which was being sold for $175.00 but It did sound in rather better condition than this one
