The above two marks, (in a  simplified form )  have been used on a number of backmarks . 

Some backmarks for companies other than S & W  appear with variations of the butterfly trade mark:

Q. M. Stores. c280/674 ors. c512off. c461ors.b/m. d1881‑1910. kc 3/5.  Thought to be attributable to the Quartermaster's stores at Aldershot.  Examples date;     TM.    a1880‑1910.

There are two further variants:

1/  W & S  on body & wings - the whole sequence is shewn reversed.   2/  S K W       on body & wings.

One of the few registered designs I came across during my foray into the Pattern Books [St George slaying dragon within foliate oval surround.]    22, 929. 13th September 1880.
